Q: How will the TKO-500 or TKO-600 affect the performance of my car?
A: The most noticeable difference will be smooth shifting and improved freeway driving. You will experience as much as a 36% reduction in RPM’s while in overdrive (5th gear) which means higher cruising speeds, a more quite ride, and much better gas mileage! Additionally, the new TKO’s are strong transmissions designed to handle up to 500 ft/lbs. of torque (TKO-500) and 600 ft/lbs. of torque (TKO-600) so if you want to drive your car hard the Tremec TKO’s are up to the task.
Q: Will a Tremec transmission fit into my particular car?
A: The Tremec TKO transmission will bolt directly to most GM bellhousings. Every car is different and some cars will accept the transmission better than others meaning that your car may require modification to the tunnel, crossmember, console, etc. There are some GM cars that will not accept this transmission, or will require major modifications. For more detailed information regarding installing a Tremec into many popular GM models, go to the “installation notes” section on the menu to the left or send an email to

Q: What other parts will I need to install my transmission?
A: If your car already has a manual transmission, the only parts you will definitely need are a C6 slip yoke, a speedometer adapter, and GM Syncromesh transmission fluid. If your car is currently an automatic you will also need a clutch/brake pedal assembly, linkage, bellhousing, clutch fork, flywheel, clutch disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing, etc.
Other items that you may want to consider replacing or upgrading are: custom crossmember, transmission mount, 2” offset shifter, 5-speed shift knob, clutch disc, pressure plate, TO bearing, and pilot bearing. We can provide you with these items at competitive prices.
Q: Where can I find out more about the new Tremec TKO-500 & TKO-600’s?
A: You can view a press release about the new TKO’s here – http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English/news/20news.asp
Q: What are the differences between the two TKO-600 models?
A: Other than the different overdrive ratios, and a small difference in price, these transmissions are identical. The “road race” TKO-600 (part # 4618) has a .82 fifth gear while the “street” TKO (part # 5009) has a .64 fifth gear for lower RPM cruising.
